Full-time temporary ongoing contract as a Private Tenancy officer with Birmingham City Council
Your new company
You will be joining Birmingham City Council, working within a specialist team that protects the rights and wellbeing of private tenants across the city. The service plays a crucial role in investigating illegal eviction, preventing harassment, and ensuring landlords meet their legal responsibilities. You will be part of a high impact, public‑facing service that makes a real difference to residents in vulnerable housing situations.
Your new role
What you'll need to succeed
To excel in this role, you will need a strong understanding of housing legislation—particularly the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 and relevant Housing Acts—and experience conducting formal investigations. You should have the ability to interview and engage sensitively with the public, assess evidence, and produce accurate, legally robust reports. Experience working with external partners, managing complex cases, and supporting diverse customer needs is essential, as is the ability to handle confidential information responsibly. Strong IT skills and confidence using case management systems will also be required.
What you'll get in return
You will receive a competitive hourly rate of £20.86 per hour total (PAYE £18.61 + holiday allowance), along with the stability of a 3‑month ongoing contract with potential for extension. This is a full-time role offering the opportunity to develop specialist expertise in tenancy enforcement and contribute to a vital service that protects Birmingham’s private tenants and supports fair practice across the private rented sector.
