Private Sector Housing Improvement Damp and Mould, £30 - £35 p/hour PAYE/Umb, 6-Month Contract

Your new company

An exciting opportunity to step into a junior management role within the Private Sector Housing team for a local authority in London. This role focusses on improving housing conditions for the LA, particularly tackling issues like damp and mould in privately rented homes.

You’ll lead investigations, support enforcement officers, and work closely with landlords to ensure properties meet legal standards. You’ll also manage a small team and budget, and contribute to wider housing and energy efficiency initiatives.

Your new role

  • Lead investigations into poor housing conditions and HMOs.
  • Carry out property inspections and assess risks using HHSRS.
  • Advise and enforce compliance with housing legislation.
  • Mentor and supervise staff, apprentices, and contractors.
  • Manage projects to improve housing quality and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies (e.g. Fire Brigade, Police).
  • Maintain accurate records and casework using council systems.
  • Support council initiatives to bring empty homes back into use.
What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in housing enforcement or environmental health.
  • Strong knowledge of Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage staff and budgets.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-agency environment.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEH, CIOB, RICS) desirable.
