About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Local Engineer to lead the design and delivery of highway improvement schemes within urban environments. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping safe, efficient, and sustainable transport infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of highway improvement projects in urban settings.
- Produce compliant and constructible design outputs using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and standards, including: Traffic Management Act 2004, Highways Act 1980 and Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and associated management requirements.
- Develop and deliver traffic management schemes involving both static and moving vehicle controls, including:
- Design and modification of stationary vehicle restrictions (e.g., parking and loading restrictions).
- Design and alteration of moving vehicle restrictions (e.g., speed limits, turning prohibitions, and related regulatory measures).About You
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of highway improvement schemes in urban environments.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software for producing high-quality design outputs.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and standards (Traffic Management Act, Highways Act, DMRB).
- Evidence of successful development of traffic management schemes, including both static and dynamic vehicle control measures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion.
