Principal Planning Officer Contract | Norfolk

Rate: £55–£62 per hour (Inside IR35)
Contract: 6 months
Working Pattern: Hybrid (ideally one to two days per week in the office, but one day a fortnight will be considered)
Start Date: April

A council in Norfolk is seeking an experienced Principal Planner to join their planning team on an interim basis. This is a great opportunity for a senior planning professional who can bring strong technical expertise, confident decision making, and supportive leadership to a committed service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on major and complex planning applications, including schemes supported by Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs)
  • Provide mentorship and day to day support to a newly appointed Principal Officer who is stepping up into the role
  • Exercise delegated sign off responsibilities with robust, well reasoned planning judgement
  • Manage staff and contribute to a high performing, customer focused planning service
  • Bring excellent decision-making, communication, and case management abilities

  • Strong experience managing major/complex applications
  • Confidence handling PPA driven projects
  • A collaborative and supportive leadership style
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality decisions
  • Capacity to help strengthen and develop the wider planning team
