A dynamic consultancy working at the forefront of utilities and infrastructure is seeking an experienced Principal / Associate Planner to join a growing Environmental and Planning team made up of 3 consultants.

This team plays a vital role in enabling major infrastructure projects that support environmental progress and national sustainability goals.


Your new role

As a Principal / Associate Planner, you will:


  • Manage a small team to deliver high-quality planning services.
  • Review and align team objectives with current environmental and planning frameworks.
  • Take ownership of team performance, ensuring deadlines and client expectations are met.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including client teams, technical experts, planning authorities, and statutory consultees.
  • Attend meetings and site visits to support collaborative project delivery.
  • Report directly to clients, ensuring clear communication and accountability.
  • Use initiative to drive progress and improve delivery outcomes.
  • Support wider team efforts on other projects and contribute to business development.
  • Provide guidance on complex cases and identify opportunities for efficiency and cross-selling services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge through continuous professional development.
  • Schedule progress reviews and keep records of learning activities.
  • Support and coordinate the development of junior staff.
  • Provide constructive feedback, delegate tasks effectively, and foster a positive team culture.
  • Engage in company initiatives, events, and social activities.
  • Promote organisational values and contribute to a positive workplace environment.
  • Ensure all work complies with legal, regulatory, contractual, and organisational requirements.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Holds a relevant planning degree and chartered membership with a recognised professional body.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the UK planning system (experience with the Scottish framework is advantageous).
  • Possesses strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Capable of preparing fee proposals and advising on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to understand client needs and negotiate effectively.
  • Proficient in GIS systems and familiar with environmental technical disciplines.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and eager to learn.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence.
