Principal / Associate Electrical Engineer - Birmingham

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global design, engineering, and project management consultancy. Your new role

As a Principal / Associate Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering Electrical Building Services design across a wide range of UK projects. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Designing and specifying electrical systems including power, lighting, life safety, security, telecoms, lifts, earthing and lightning protection.
  • Producing detailed calculations using tools such as Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux and Excel.
  • Preparing specifications, reports and design presentations.
  • Working closely with BIM teams and contributing to Revit‑based model development.
  • Attending client and design‑team meetings, providing technical expertise and representing the business professionally.
  • Leading site surveys, inspections and supporting commissioning.
  • Managing your own workload to deliver high-quality work within deadlines and budgets.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Contributing to digital innovation and low‑carbon design strategies across the practice.

What you'll need to succeed

Proven experience within Electrical Building Services engineering.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status or progression toward Chartered Membership with IET, CIBSE or similar.
  • Strong understanding of UK regulations, design standards and industry best practice.
  • Experience using electrical design and lighting calculation software (Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux).
  • Familiarity with NBS, Microsoft tools and ideally Revit/BIM workflows.
  • Knowledge of energy‑efficient design, decarbonisation strategies and performance evaluation.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive, curious and collaborative approach to engineering and digital innovation.
