Primary Teacher (ASD & SEMH) – Alternative Provision

Your new school

You will be joining a specialist Alternative Provision setting that supports primary-aged pupils with ASD and SEMH needs. The school offers a highly structured and therapeutic environment, with a strong focus on wellbeing, behaviour, and individual progress. With small class sizes and a collaborative staffing model, you will work closely with experienced support staff to provide consistent, high-quality provision for pupils who require a more bespoke approach to learning

Your new role

You will take full class responsibility for a small group of 8 primary-aged pupils, supported by two Teaching Assistants. This is a full-time role starting in the Autumn term, where you will be expected to lead learning confidently and independently.

Your role will include:
  • Planning, delivering, and assessing engaging and differentiated lessons
  • Leading the classroom with confidence, supported by two TAs
  • Supporting pupils with ASD and SEMH needs to re-engage with education
  • Establishing clear routines, boundaries, and expectations
  • Creating a nurturing, calm, and structured environment
  • Promoting positive behaviour, engagement, and progress
  • Working within a therapeutic approach to support emotional regulation
This is a role for someone who can hit the ground running, take initiative, and make an immediate impact.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong experience working with pupils with ASD
  • Significant experience supporting SEMH needs
  • Confidence managing a small class independently and leading support staff
  • The ability to plan, assess, and organise learning autonomously
  • A proactive, adaptable approach with a “can-do” attitude
  • High expectations for behaviour, engagement, and outcomes
  • A nurturing, relationship-focused approach balanced with clear boundaries
  • Resilience, consistency, and strong behaviour management skills
  • Confidence working within a therapeutic and structured setting
This role would suit an experienced and confident teacher who is passionate about making a difference and can quickly build strong relationships while maintaining high standards in a specialist environment.
