Great opportunity for a Policy and Communications Officer to join a public sector organisation in Belfast.

Your new company

A public sector organisation with a strong commitment to human rights, trauma-informed practice, and survivor-centred engagement, the organisation is at a pivotal stage in delivering key legislative and policy outcomes. Based in Belfast, the team operates a hybrid working model, with office-based collaboration currently on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Your new role

The Policy and Communications Officer is a key post within the organisation and will report to the Policy and Communications (SO) and will assist with communications plan, policy research and engagement with stakeholders.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with the development of a communications plan, including profile-raising activities through consistent, quality content of social media channels and website management.

  • Assist with the development and delivery of targeted communication materials, including a range of publication materials, such as newsletters, leaflets, flyers, etc, press releases, social media content and organise online and face to face meetings and events as required.

  • Monitor and analyse media coverage and develop appropriate responses to negative coverage.

  • Maintain an appropriate social media presence for the organisation, monitor social media and website activity daily. Responsible for updating the organisation’s website and social media.

  • Be the first point of contact for victims and survivors contacting the office.

  • Assist with conducting research into systemic or thematic matters relevant to historical institutional childhood abuse, including scoping current sources of historical data and identifying gaps and challenges.

  • Identify key findings and bring forward appropriate draft briefing on areas relating to the organisations work to advise government and policy makers.

  • Collate, analyse and prepare draft correspondence, information, briefings, speeches and reports as required in progressing key areas across policy, research.

  • Promote awareness of the Office and create opportunities for victims and survivors to engage and develop appropriate contacts within stakeholder organisations to establish effective working relationships and communication channels.

  • Provide communication and policy support across the organisation.


What you'll need to succeed

  • A minimum of at least three years’ experience working in a policy and communications.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering targeted communication materials, including press releases, social media content, leaflets, newsletters and so on.
  • Proven experience in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, including through developing and disseminating communication materials for different stakeholder audiences, including reports, presentations and online content.
  • Excellent IT skills, including in MS Office, information management tools and software, presenting data and information in a variety of formats.
  • Proven experience of undertaking information/policy/research analysis and managing, collating and presenting information effectively and in accordance with relevant Data Protection Legislation
Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with an organisation providing information and advice to vulnerable clients or groups.
