Hays Belfast are currently recruiting for a Senior Planner / Planning Manager for a leading civil engineering contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland.

Having already delivered one of Northern Ireland’s largest civil infrastructure schemes, they are now seeking to grow their reputation in the region and require a Planning Manager to help shape further UK based civil engineering projects.

Known for innovation, quality, and collaboration, your new employer continues to expand its portfolio across highways, bridges, marine, and environmental sectors. As part of this growth, they are seeking a talented Civils Planning Manager to join and lead their planning team.

Your new role

As Civils Planning Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of major civil engineering projects. A key project you will be involved in is the construction of a new major highway scheme valued in excess of £200million.

As part of your role, you will lead the planning function across live and tendered schemes, ensuring robust programme development, sequencing, and reporting. Working closely with project teams, commercial leads, and clients, you’ll provide strategic input from pre-construction through to completion, using primarily P6 Primavera software to drive efficiency and mitigate risk. Those with Asta Powerproject and MS Project experience are still encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and managing detailed construction programmes for civils projects
  • Supporting tender submissions with strategic planning input
  • Monitoring progress and identifying opportunities for resequencing and recovery
  • Collaborating with site teams, commercial staff, and clients to ensure programme alignment
  • Leading planning meetings and reporting on key milestones and risks
  • Supporting claims and delay analysis where required.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
Proven experience in a planning role within civil engineering projects
Strong proficiency in P6 Primavera software however those with Asta Powerproject or MS Project who are open to operating P6 are still encouraged to apply.
Excellent understanding of construction / civil engineering methodologies and sequencing
Ability to communicate effectively across teams and with stakeholders
Experience with NEC and other standard forms of contract
A proactive, analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
