Personal Assistant - Elected Members Support

Due to the partnership between Hays and Birmingham City Council, we are looking to recruit a Personal Assistant to support the elected members. Your new role

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and professional Personal Assistant to provide dedicated support to elected representatives, including Members of Parliament (MPs), Cabinet Members, and Councillors associated with Birmingham City Council. This is a fast-paced and high-profile role at the heart of local government, requiring exceptional organisational skills, discretion, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
This is a fully on-site role based at the Council House.

As a PA, you will be providing comprehensive administrative and diary management support to elected members, coordinating meetings, briefings, and events while preparing agendas and taking accurate minutes. You will also act as a key point of contact between elected members, council officers, constituents, and external organisations, ensuring effective communication at all times. Additionally, you will be preparing high-quality correspondence, reports, and presentations, and manage confidential information with the utmost professionalism and integrity and will be supporting with casework and responding to constituent enquiries where appropriate, while arranging travel, logistics, and complex scheduling across multiple diaries. Additionally, you will ensure timely follow-ups and track actions relating to key decisions and priorities.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you need to be highly organised with excellent attention to detail and have experience providing senior-level administrative or personal assistant support. You need to be a confident communicator, both verbally and in writing, and have the ability to work calmly under pressure while managing multiple competing priorities. You must demonstrate strong political awareness, ideally with an understanding of local government, and be trusted to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. You must also be proficient in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools, enabling you to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
