Payroll & Pensions Manager FTC position

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll & Pensions Manager to join their team on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis

Duties include;

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness using midland i-Trent payroll system
  • Ensure payroll complies with HMRC regulations, employment law, and internal policies.
  • Prepare payroll reports for finance and HR departments, including cost analysis and forecasting.
  • Maintain and update Midland i-Trent payroll system.
  • Deductions and adjustments: Handle statutory deductions (e.g., tax, NI, student loans) and voluntary deductions (e.g., benefits, union fees).
  • Conduct regular audits and reconcile payroll accounts with finance.
  • Manage workplace pension schemes including TPS, Nest, LGPS and DC
  • Act as the main contact for pension providers and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure pension processes comply with The Pensions Regulators and relevant legislation.
  • Provide guidance to employees on pension options, contributions, and retirement planning.
  • Prepare pension reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop payroll and pensions staff, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
  • Identify and implement improvements to payroll and pension processes.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and senior leadership to align payroll and pension strategies with business goals.
  • Monitor and mitigate risks related to payroll and pensions.

You must have;

  • Strong knowledge of Midland i-Trent payroll system for processing
  • Understanding of UK payroll legislation, tax regulations, and pension compliance
  • Numerical accuracy and attention to detail for managing complex calculations and reconciliations.
  • Ability to interpret data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Skilled in reporting and forecasting payroll and pension costs.
  • Capable of leading and developing payroll/pensions staff.
  • Communicates effectively with HR, Finance, external providers, and employees.
  • Able to explain complex pension and payroll matters clearly to non-specialists.
  • Meets strict deadlines, especially during payroll cycles.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline operations and enhance accuracy.
