Pay Band: A2
Salary Range: £57,865 to £68,159 (equivalent daily contractor rate)
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract until 27 March 2026

This role sits within a high-profile public sector organisation at the heart of UK governance. The Reward, Engagement and Compliance team leads strategic initiatives around pay, reward, and employee engagement, working closely with trade union partners. The team is responsible for developing policies that support organisational goals and for managing negotiations on pay and reward matters.

Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Pay Benchmarking Expert to support the development of a robust and sustainable pay flexibility framework. This role is critical to ensuring the organisation remains competitive in attracting and retaining talent for business-critical functions. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in market insights, compensation strategy, and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pay Benchmarking: Analyse external compensation data to identify market trends and ensure competitiveness in recruitment and retention.
  • Salary Surveys & Reporting: Lead participation in annual salary surveys, analyse industry pay trends, and produce comprehensive reports.
  • Pay Flexibility: Work with HR leaders to align salary structures and pay flexibilities with market standards and internal equity.
  • Data Analysis: Use statistical tools to interpret pay data, uncover trends, and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Compensation Strategy: Advise on salary bands, pay policies, and incentive schemes based on benchmarking insights.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with HR, Finance, and senior leadership to communicate findings and support strategic decisions.
  • Market Research: Stay informed on compensation trends, benchmarking tools, and best practices in reward strategy.
✅ Candidate Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in pay benchmarking, compensation analysis, or HR data analytics—preferably within the public sector.
  • Strong understanding of UK compensation structures and relevant legislation, ideally including Government Profession Capability Frameworks (e.g., DDaT).
  • Familiarity with benchmarking tools such as Brightmine, Mercer, or Willis Towers Watson.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and proficiency with other analytics platforms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
