Location: Exeter (EX4)
Hours: 33.75 per week | Monday–Friday | 8:30am–3:45pm
Contract: Permanent | Term-time only (38.5 weeks per year)
Salary: Grade E (Points 16–22) – £30,518 to £33,699 (pro rata £24,485)
Start Date: September/October 2025


Your new role

We are currently recruiting for a Pastoral and Safeguarding Lead to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Exeter. This is a key role within the school community, focused on supporting pupils’ emotional wellbeing, safeguarding, and pastoral needs. Working closely with the headteacher and senior leadership team, you’ll help ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in safeguarding or pastoral care, who is passionate about making a difference in children’s lives. The role is term-time only, offering a great work-life balance while still being part of a committed and caring school team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate safeguarding procedures and pastoral support across the school
  • Act as a point of contact for pupils, families, and external agencies
  • Support the development and implementation of safeguarding policies and practices
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to multi-agency meetings where required
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that prioritises pupil wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with staff to identify and respond to concerns

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a safeguarding, pastoral, or child protection role within education or a related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with children, families, and professionals
  • A calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting vulnerable pupils
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
