Hays Recruitment are looking for a Painter & Decorator to join an Estates Maintenance Team. The company manages a diverse portfolio of academic, residential, and support buildings, including listed properties and buildings within conservation areas. Your new role
As a Painter & Decorator, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance works across the university's estate. Working both independently and alongside other trades, you will undertake a wide range of decorating tasks to ensure the appearance, condition, and longevity of university facilities.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing surfaces including cleaning, sanding, filling, patching, and repairing defects.
  • Carrying out internal and external painting and decorating works using a variety of materials, finishes, and application methods.
  • Completing planned and reactive maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Assisting with condition surveys and maintaining schedules of decoration works.
  • Working collaboratively with maintenance teams, contractors, and university stakeholders.
  • Completing maintenance records, work orders, and reports using electronic systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Supporting the preservation of historic and heritage buildings where required.
  • Providing an excellent level of service to staff, students, and visitors across campus.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds qualification in Painting & Decorating, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Previous experience working within a planned and reactive maintenance environment.
  • Proven experience carrying out painting and decorating works within commercial or professional settings.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety practices, including risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • A full UK driving licence.
Desirable experience includes:
  • Experience working within a higher education environment.
  • PASMA and/or IPAF certification.
  • Basic carpentry and plaster repair skills.
  • Experience using digital maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of heritage or conservation painting techniques.
  • Welsh language skills.
