We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced ‘outdoors person’ with a strong commitment to outdoor education to continue the development of the Academy’s outdoor education site at Holt Heath, Worcestershire. In this role, you will run day-to-day activities at Island Pool, manage and maintain the site, liaise with a range of partners to support the development of the curriculum, and deliver programmes to small groups of students, including those with challenging behaviour.
The Site
Island Pool comprises a campsite, woodland and lake on Top Barn Farm in Worcestershire, leased by the Academy from Top Barn Trust. The site includes: an outdoor classroom, seating 50; a fishing lake with 10 canoes; authentic roundhouse with firepit; a small kitchen; showers and toilets; sleeping accommodation for up to 34 (tents and cabins).
The Role
* Manage and run day to day activities at Island Pool, including liaising with activity providers as needed
* Lead and deliver outdoor education provision at the site including water-based activities
* Maintain the site including grounds maintenance
* Be responsible for record keeping and health and safety onsite and around the lake ensuring safety procedures and risk assessments are in place
* Develop a vision for Island Pool that dovetails with the visions of the Academy and Top Barn Trust
* Be responsible for acquisition, maintenance and storage of all outdoor education equipment
* Instruct and guide students in outdoor activities
* Work with Broadway staff who are using the site to deliver teaching and learning
* Support with the delivery of the Aspiration programme to re-engage disaffected students
You will have relevant outdoor sports qualifications with water sports and/or canoeing essential, experience of organising and delivering a range of outdoor activities and a track record of working independently. You will have substantial experience of working with young people and and be able to forge strong relationships with a range of partners. First aid qualification and health and safety management are also essential.
