NRPF Officer role on a full-time temporary ongoing contract with Birmingham City Council

Your new company

Birmingham City Council is one of the largest local authorities in Europe, providing essential services to residents across the city. The Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable people and meeting its statutory responsibilities while supporting households to achieve greater stability and independence. You will be joining a dedicated team focused on supporting households with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF).

Your new role

As an NRPF Support Officer, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management and support of households with No Recourse to Public Funds. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accommodation provision, safeguarding oversight, and compliance with statutory duties.
Your responsibilities will include securing emergency accommodation, sourcing and managing longer‑term self‑contained properties, and conducting wellbeing and safeguarding checks, escalating concerns to Birmingham Children’s Trust where necessary. You will monitor household stability through occupancy checks, manage lettings processes, and ensure properties meet health, safety, and compliance standards.
You will liaise closely with landlords regarding inspections, repairs, and compliance issues, handle complaints and escalations, attend evictions when required, and arrange property hand backs and collections. Alongside this, you will complete a range of administrative tasks including record keeping, data input, reporting, and responding to enquiries from service users and partner agencies. You will also support households to move towards mainstream housing by signposting them to make a Part 7 homelessness application once Leave to Remain has been granted.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Experience working in housing, homelessness, safeguarding, or a related support role
  • An understanding of NRPF households and safeguarding responsibilities
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to manage challenging situations, complaints, and escalations
  • Good administrative skills with attention to detail
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Access to your own vehicle and willingness to add business insurance once a start date is confirmed

What you'll get in return

In return, Birmingham City Council offers:
  • A 3‑month ongoing contract with the potential for extension
  • Full‑time hours, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference supporting vulnerable households
  • Experience working within a large, respected local authority
  • A supportive team environment focused on safeguarding and compliance
