We have an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Technician to work for our client who operate a large biomass plant. This is an interesting and varied role, working Monday to Friday with some call out where required.
Your new role
You will be expected to:• Carry out routine plant checks, daily operating tasks, adjustments, tests, and record all plant data.
• Fix faults, carry out planned maintenance, and respond to first‑line breakdowns to help the plant meet its reliability and availability targets.
• Support daily planned operations and maintenance work according to the CMMS schedule, working with QHSE and operations teams and completing all required CMMS/Safety System documents and RAMS on time.
• Diagnose problems, find faults, and repair plant equipment promptly, working with the operations team and external contractors when needed.
• Take proactive steps to improve plant reliability, efficiency, and performance while ensuring the plant remains safe and environmentally compliant.
• Supervise external contractors on site and review/approve their RAMS.
• Help manage the stores' system by checking out parts and ensuring items are reordered, so the plant always has the necessary spare parts.
• Make sure the fuel handling and by‑product systems are always operated safely, within environmental rules, and within operational limits, while keeping the plant as reliable, available and efficient as possible.
• Ensure daily compliance with all fuel‑handling requirements, including LOLER checks, vehicle pre‑use checks, routine fuel‑handling tasks, plant inspections, and the safe operation of on‑site traffic routes and weighbridge systems.
• Make sure the fuel‑handling team can act as first‑line operators and maintainers for the fuel‑feeding systems and surrounding areas.
• Record all defects, tasks, and routines in the site’s CMMS system.
What you'll need to succeed
Ideally NVQ level 3 or equivalent in mechanical engineering. • Experience and certification in operating a Counterbalance Forklift, Front‑End Loader/Telescopic handler.
• Knowledge and experience of biomass or thermal power plant processes, ideally with exposure to heavy industrial maintenance.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience using traffic management systems and weighbridge operations.
• Experience in mechanical and/or EC&I maintenance.
• Competent IT skills, including CMMS systems, Excel, and report writing.
