Mechanical Shift Maintenance Technician

Your new company

You will be joining a large, well‑established UK port and logistics operator that plays a key role in global supply chains. With ongoing investment in infrastructure, equipment, and sustainability, the organisation is committed to safe, reliable operations and the continuous development of its engineering workforce. The focus is on operational excellence, safety, and long‑term career opportunities within a critical industrial environment.

Your new role

As a Mechanical Shift Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing Mobile Plant equipment within a busy port environment. Working on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern, you will carry out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, availability, and safe operation.
You will work in accordance with safe systems of work at all times, actively promoting a strong safety culture across all activities. The role involves close collaboration with Engineering Shift Managers and Lead Engineers, ensuring effective communication around breakdowns, repairs, and requirements for parts and materials.
A key aspect of the role is responding to equipment breakdowns during operation, carrying out fault diagnosis and repairs efficiently and safely to minimise downtime. You will also be expected to complete required training as needed and demonstrate flexibility and willingness to develop additional skills where appropriate.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you will have a strong mechanical engineering background, ideally with experience working on container handling or heavy mobile plant equipment. You will also need:
  • A minimum ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong troubleshooting, fault‑finding, and repair experience
  • A good understanding of modern maintenance strategies such as RCM, FMECA, CBM, and TPM
  • Experience working with motors and variable speed controllers
  • The ability to work safely in a high‑pressure, operational environment
  • A full and valid UK driving licence

What you'll get in return

In return, you’ll receive a competitive salary along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both your career development and overall wellbeing. This includes:
  • 26 days annual leave
  • Pension scheme with up to 10% matched employer contribution
  • Access to a flexible benefits platform, including options such as car schemes, healthcare cash plans, cycle‑to‑work, gym membership, retail vouchers, and additional insurance products
  • Strong commitment to training, upskilling, and professional development
  • Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential physical and mental wellbeing support
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward‑thinking engineering team within a critical infrastructure environment, offering shift flexibility, stability, and long‑term progression.
