Mechanical Maintenance Engineer required for a university based within Greater Manchester.

Your new company

This university is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our Estates & Facilities team. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the mechanical systems that support our vibrant academic, research, and residential environments.

Your new role

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems including HVAC, boilers, pumps, and plumbing.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to ensure minimal disruption to university operations.
  • Support the safe operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across campus.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, contractors, and university departments to deliver high-quality service.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance.

What you'll need to succeed

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services.
  • Proven experience in mechanical maintenance, ideally within a large or complex estate.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, and plumbing infrastructure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices and legislation.
Desirable
  • Experience in a university, hospital, or public sector environment.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Gas Safe registration or relevant certification.
