Contract Opportunity - Mechanical Fitter

Your new company:
You will be joining a well-established organisation within the shipbuilding and heavy engineering sector, delivering complex, high-value marine projects. The company is known for its commitment to safety (SHE), quality, and operational excellence, providing a structured and collaborative working environment within its operations team.

Your new role:
As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and installation of mechanical components within a shipbuilding environment. Reporting to the Trade Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring work is delivered safely, to specification, and in line with quality and production targets.

Your key duties will include:
  • Fabricating, assembling, and installing ship components in line with engineering drawings
  • Using a range of hand tools and mechanical equipment to carry out fitting activities
  • Interpreting fabrication and installation drawings accurately
  • Ensuring all work meets company quality standards and tolerances
  • Working closely with supervisors and other trades to achieve team targets
  • Supporting shop floor activities and resolving practical issues
  • Maintaining compliance with all SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) regulations
  • Taking ownership of your work, ensuring it is completed to a high standard and within deadlines

What you'll need to succeed:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Recognised mechanical trade qualification (trade papers)
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter, ideally in shipbuilding, marine, or heavy engineering
  • Strong ability to read and interpret fabrication and installation drawings
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Excellent hands-on skills using mechanical tools and equipment
  • Understanding of SHE practices and workplace safety requirements
  • Relevant safety certifications (e.g., SHE induction, COSHH awareness, working at height)
  • A reliable, proactive attitude with strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt to changing work requirements
