Your new role
As a Mechanical Supervisor (Engineer Mechanical Level 3) at HMP Highpoint, you will be responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of plumbing, heating and water systems within a secure prison environment. You will carry out fault finding, repairs, installations, testing and commissioning, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with current legislation.
You will oversee maintenance activities, supervise prisoners undertaking work assignments, conduct quality inspections, manage materials and stock, and support compliance across the site. The role also involves escorting contractors, maintaining security procedures, carrying out inspections in confined spaces and at height, and contributing to the overall operational performance of the estate.

Pay Frequency: Weekly
Standard Hourly Rate: £21.21 p/h + holiday
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Working Hours: 37 hours per week minimum
Additional Information: The current standard working hours are between 8am and 4pm, but hours could change if deemed appropriate by the contractors.
What you'll need to succeed
- NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent trade qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Mechanical Engineer, Plumber or similar mechanical maintenance role.
- Experience carrying out fault finding, repairs and maintenance on plumbing, heating and water systems.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and safe systems of work.
- Experience delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to obtain the required Ministry of Justice security clearance (vetting process can take up to 8 weeks).
- Satisfactory employment references.
- G3 Unvented Hot Water qualification.
- Legionella Awareness (L8) certification.
- Knowledge of Water Supply Regulations.
- Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems.
- Previous experience in a secure environment, facilities management or public sector setting.
