Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract Opportunity)
Overview
A specialist engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support a series of complex machinery and manufacturing‑system projects. The company delivers mechanical design, electrical integration, fabrication, and full turnkey engineering solutions for clients.
This contract role is ideal for hands‑on designer who can take concepts through to manufacturing and enjoys working closely with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- 3D CAD Modelling — Produce detailed component, assembly, and manufacturing drawings using Inventor or similar.
- Design for Manufacture — Create drawings and specifications optimised for fabrication, machining, and assembly.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration — Work alongside electrical, controls, and software engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Problem-Solving — Resolve design challenges, support prototype builds, and contribute to commissioning activities.
- Technical Documentation — Produce BOMs, reports, and compliance‑related documentation as required.
- Project Support — Participate in design reviews and provide engineering input throughout the project lifecycle
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong background in mechanical design for machinery, automation, or industrial equipment
- Proficiency 3D CAD
- Experience producing manufacturing drawings, tolerance, and GD&T
- Good understanding of fabrication, machining, and assembly processes
- Ability to take designs from concept through to build and installation
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, engineering‑led environment
- Strong analytical and practical problem‑solving skills
Contract Details
- Start: ASAP
- Location: North West England (on‑site)
- Duration: Initial 1-3 months, with potential extension
