Mechanical Chargehand required for a major project based in Belfast.

Your new company

One of Northern Ireland’s prominent M&E Contractors, with over 40 years of experience, is seeking a Mechanical Chargehand for a multi-million pound project in Belfast. Renowned for its excellence in MEP Services, the company consistently provides top-tier engineering solutions across various sectors, including Commercial, Energy, Education, Health, Hotel & Leisure, Residential, and Retail.

Your new role

As Mechanical Chargehand, you will be responsible for leading a team of mechanical operatives on-site, ensuring that all mechanical installations are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. You will act as a key link between the workforce and site management, supporting the successful delivery of this flagship project.
This role offers a clear pathway for progression into a management role for the right candidate, based on performance and leadership potential.

  • Supervise and coordinate mechanical operatives
  • Ensure daily tasks are completed in line with project schedules and quality standards.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to guide installation works.
  • Monitor and enforce health & safety compliance on-site.
  • Assist with hands-on mechanical installation as required.
  • Report progress, issues, and resource needs to site management.
  • Support the training and development of junior operatives.

    What you'll need to succeed
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Chargehand/Foreperson or senior mechanical engineer on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and pipework.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Valid CSR or equivalent site safety card.
  • NVQ Level 3 Plumbing/Heating qualification or equivalent.
  • Commitment to health & safety and quality assurance.
  • Ambition to progress into a management role.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential.
