Your new company

Hays is delighted to be representing a well ‑ established and growing energy organisation operating across multiple entities within the UK. The business works in a regulated, project ‑ driven environment and places strong emphasis on financial control, compliance, and commercial insight. With a collaborative culture and a clearly structured finance function, the organisation offers an environment where finance professionals are encouraged to add value beyond the numbers and support operational and strategic decision ‑ making.

Your new role

As Management Accountant, you will play a key role supporting the Financial Controller and the wider business. The position has responsibility for the preparation of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting commentary. You will manage weekly cash flow forecasting, oversee working capital performance across receivables and payables, and ensure day ‑ to ‑ day cash requirements are effectively controlled.

In addition, you will lead the budgeting and rolling forecast processes, working closely with key stakeholders across the business to gather and interpret financial information. The role also includes responsibility for quarterly VAT returns, oversight and approval of payroll prepared by a third ‑ party provider, and leadership of the month ‑ end close process. You will support external audits and assist with the preparation of draft statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP, internal controls, and group accounting policies.

Beyond core reporting, the role provides meaningful commercial exposure. You will support weekly KPI reporting, analyse business unit performance, and contribute financial and commercial insight to tender submissions, including financial modelling, cost assumptions, and working capital considerations. You will regularly review the cost base to ensure appropriate labour and overhead recovery rates and play an active role in identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and operational efficiency. The position also includes supporting system and ERP enhancements and providing guidance and support to an Assistant Accountant as part of the wider finance team.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you will have prior experience in a management accounting or financial analysis position within a similar commercial or project ‑ based environment. You will be professionally qualified, or studying towards qualification, with CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or an equivalent accountancy qualification.

You will bring strong technical accounting skills, including experience producing management accounts, cash flow forecasts, budgets, and VAT returns, along with confidence working with Excel and financial or ERP systems. Experience using Power BI is beneficial, and exposure to EFACS would be advantageous, although not essential. Just as important is your ability to communicate financial information clearly to non ‑ finance stakeholders, manage multiple priorities to tight deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively. A proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement, strong financial governance, and commercial awareness will be critical to your success.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will secure a broad and impactful Management Accountant role within a growing energy ‑ focused organisation. You will work closely with senior finance leadership, gain exposure to commercial decision ‑ making, and have the opportunity to influence financial processes, controls, and business performance. This role offers genuine responsibility, visibility, and long ‑ term development potential for a qualified or nearly qualified accountant looking to progress their career.
