About the Role
We’re hiring a Mechanical Maintenance Operative to join our busy Estates & Facilities team. You’ll be responsible for maintaining mechanical systems across our buildings and infrastructure, ensuring everything runs safely, smoothly, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment.
- Carry out servicing, fault-finding, inspections, testing, and minor installations.
- Support refurbishment projects and system upgrades.
- Use CAFM software to manage tasks and update records.
- Collaborate with other trades and assist with general maintenance duties.
- Liaise with building users and contractors to coordinate access and support inspections.
- Ensure all work complies with health & safety regulations, risk assessments, and permits.
- Mentor apprentices and support team development.
- Carry out other duties as required by the Maintenance Supervisor.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3, HNC, A-Level or equivalent in a mechanical trade.
- City & Guilds 3345 – Water Regulations & Unvented Hot Water Systems (or equivalent).
- Experience in fault diagnosis and technical problem-solving.
- Strong understanding of building regulations and health & safety practices.
Desirable:
- Experience in customer-facing roles.
- Familiarity with CAFM/Helpdesk systems.
Skills:
- Organised and able to prioritise workload.
- Strong communication and teamwork.
- Willingness to undertake further training.
Additional Information
- This is a site-based role with work in plant rooms, ducts, roofs, and other challenging environments.
- On-call and out-of-hours work may be required.
- PPE and safety equipment will be provided.
