Your New Role
You will ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of all bakery machinery by delivering proactive maintenance, rapid issue resolution and systematic improvements to plant uptime. This role underpins production reliability, waste reduction and product quality by embedding strong engineering standards and contributing to the site’s long-term operational excellence.
Whilst on shift your core duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Further develop, execute, and optimise the site’s Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule • Respond rapidly to equipment failures to minimise downtime • Record and analyse root causes of failures; implement corrective actions • Coordinate external engineers and specialist contractors as required • Monitor equipment performance and downtime trends to identify recurring issues • Support improvements to changeovers, setups, and overall line efficiency • Contribute to OEE, waste reduction and CI initiatives • Maintain engineering logs, downtime reports, and CMMS data.
Manage critical spare parts inventory and supplier relationships • Maintain accurate asset registers and service histories • Control engineering spend within approved budgets • Ensure full compliance with PUWER, SSOW, and machinery safety standards • Complete risk assessments and support safe systems of work • Support audit readiness across Technical and Production • Assist with commissioning of new equipment • Work with Production teams to prioritise engineering tasks • Provide guidance to operators on safe machine operation • Liaise with OEMs and service partners for specialist support.
What You'll Need To Succeed
In order to be considered for this post you will need to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualifications:
EssentialMechanical and/or electrical maintenance expertise • Strong diagnostic skills across automated food production or FMCG equipment • Competent with technical drawings, schematics, and controls • Experience with PPM, condition monitoring and reliability tools • Understands production flow and equipment criticality • Data-driven approach to downtime reporting and analysis • Lean and continuous improvement mindset • Strong communication across teams and shifts • Knowledge of lock-off procedures and machinery safety regulations • Understanding of HACCP and hygiene standards.
Commitment to a strong safety and compliance culture • 3–5 years in maintenance engineering (desirable within food/FMCG manufacturing) • Proven record in reactive and planned maintenance • Demonstrated success improving equipment uptime • Experience using CMMS/maintenance systems.
Desirable
NVQ Level 3+ / Apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering • PLC fault-finding ability • Experience commissioning new machinery • Lean or CI training.
