About the Opportunity
Hays is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well‑established and respected organisation based in Cambridge. Our client is seeking a hands‑on and reliable Maintenance Assistant to support the smooth day‑to‑day running of their facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, problem‑solving, and being part of a supportive team environment.

Key Responsibilities
Working as part of the facilities team, your duties will include:
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and basic repairs across the site
  • Supporting planned preventative maintenance activities
  • Assisting external contractors and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Responding to maintenance tickets and resolving issues promptly
  • Conducting regular building checks and reporting faults
  • Maintaining tools and equipment to a high standard
  • Supporting room setups, furniture moves, and operational tasks
  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations and organisational standards

About You
Our client is looking for someone who brings:
  • Previous maintenance, caretaking, or practical DIY experience (desirable but not essential)
  • A basic understanding of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, or general building repairs
  • A proactive approach with strong problem‑solving skills
  • A reliable, positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues and contractors
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
