Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a highly respected special educational school in Warrington with a long-standing record of outstanding practice, as they are seeking dedicated Level 2 Teaching Assistants to join their skilled and compassionate team on an initial full-time temporary basis, with permanent contracts given to those that are able to excel and build strong constructive relationships with pupils.

These positions focus on providing high-quality 1:1 support for children and young people aged 4–16 with a range of additional needs. Successful candidates will work closely with pupils to help them access learning, build confidence, and make meaningful progress in a nurturing environment.

Your key responsibilities

  • Delivering individualised interventions, such as one-to-one speech and language support
  • Using Makaton, PECS, and other communication systems to promote pupils’ expressive and receptive language skills
  • Providing behavioural support, guided by positive behaviour strategies and personalised plans
  • Assisting with physical therapy activities, mobility programmes, fine and gross motor skill development, and any required physical support
  • Supporting learning within both 1:1 and small-group settings
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider staff to ensure each pupil receives consistent, high-quality support

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must be minimum level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualified and have relevant referenceable experience supporting children and/or young people over the last2 years. Other requirements include:

  • Experience using Makaton, PECs and other communicative aids
  • Experience supporting behavioural needs and the ability to effectively manage said behaviours
  • Be able to commit to a full-time temporary contract (32.5 hours per week)
