Specialist Independent School for Autistic Young People – West Sussex
Start date: After Easter 2026
Contract: Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Full Time, Term Time Only - 8:30 - 4:15

Your new company

A specialist independent school in West Sussex is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join its team supporting autistic children and young people. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a nurturing, structured environment where every student is encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The school offers a supportive, inclusive environment with a strong focus on personalised learning, life skills, and preparing young people for adulthood. Staff benefit from a collaborative culture, ongoing CPD opportunities, and a commitment to wellbeing.

Your new role

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to support pupils aged 11–19 in accessing learning and developing essential life skills. The role involves building positive relationships, promoting independence, and helping students engage confidently with their education.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils in lessons, small groups, and 1:1 sessions
  • Assisting with adapted learning materials and differentiated activities
  • Encouraging communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
  • Promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing
  • Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Contributing to progress reviews and supporting EHCP targets

What you'll need to succeed

The school welcomes applicants with experience in education, care, or youth support, as well as those with transferable skills and a passion for working with young people. You will be well suited to the role if you are:

  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient
  • Able to build trust and rapport with young people
  • Calm, adaptable, and solution-focused
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Keen to learn and develop professionally

Experience supporting autistic young people is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

What you'll get in return

  • Temporary-to-permanent contract starting after Easter 2026
  • Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
  • Comprehensive training and development
  • Supportive leadership and a welcoming staff community
  • Free on-site parking and access to wellbeing initiatives
