Your new role

As Lead Fire Engineer, you will oversee the fire engineering discipline within a major restoration programme. You’ll be a senior technical leader within the engineering team, shaping strategy, ensuring compliance, and embedding fire safety throughout the building lifecycle—from design to operation.

Your key responsibilties would be as follows

- Lead and manage the fire engineering function within the technical team.

- Develop and implement fire safety strategy aligned with regulations and best practices.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for fire safety matters across the programme.

- Promote fire safety excellence in a heritage context.

- Oversee fire-related procurement and technical assessments.

- Maintain high fire safety standards throughout all project phases.

- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory and heritage bodies.


What you'll need to succeed

Essential:

- Chartered Fire Engineer with substantial experience.

- Strong grasp of safety cases and ALARP principles.

- Proficient in reviewing fire engineering reports and RIBA design outputs.

- Experience with Qualitative Design Reviews (QDR).

- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Building Safety Act.

Desirable:

- Demonstrated leadership in fire engineering.

- Experience working with listed buildings and heritage stakeholders.

- Operational fire safety experience across project lifecycles.

- Ability to develop bespoke fire engineering standards and specifications.

- Experience in technical assurance of deliverables.
