Lead Escort, HMP Leyhill, Full-time, long-term temporary

An exciting and challenging opportunity has become available to join HMP Leyhill as a contractor Lead escort working as part of a third-party company. This company looks after all the maintenance work within this prison.


Your new role


To ensure the safety and safe passage of non-MOJ personnel assigned to you in the capacity of the Lead Escort and overseeing a small team of escorts. To carry out escorting to support the efficient delivery of project work and planned/ minor work tasks as assigned by your line manager.

Escort duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of Escorting Staff: Lead and coordinate a team of escorts responsible for accompanying contractors and visitors within secure areas of the prison.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure all escorted personnel comply with prison security protocols, including searches, identification checks, and movement restrictions.
  • Access Control: Manage access to restricted areas, ensuring only authorised personnel are permitted entry.
  • Health & Safety Oversight: Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Incident Reporting: Respond to and report any security breaches, suspicious behaviour, or incidents involving escorted personnel.
  • Liaison Duties: Act as the main point of contact between GFSL, prison staff, and external contractors during escorting operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of escorted visits, contractor movements, and any incidents or issues.

Full-time hours, Monday to Friday: 8–4.30pm

What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working in a secure or custodial environment (e.g., prison, detention centre).
  • Strong understanding of security procedures and protocols.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Basic IT skills for record-keeping and reporting.
