Permanent Lead bioinformatician for SME biotech in London. Microbiome research, NGS, Python/R

Your new company
You'll be joining a pioneering biotechnology company at the forefront of microbiome research. This well-funded and fast-moving biotech is backed by leading investors and an experienced team carrying out cutting-edge science to make a significant real-world impact.
They are based in London and looking to go into their next period of company growth.

Your new role
As a Bioinformatics Lead, you will play a key role in driving the company’s computational research. This is a permanent role that requires a strong on-site presence at their site in London.
Responsibilities include:
  • Designing and implementing bioinformatics pipelines for microbial / microbiome analysis
  • Conducting statistical evaluations of microbiome datasets using R and Python
  • Collaborating with biologists to interpret sequencing data
  • Designing and leading bioinformatics and data science related projects
  • Developing reproducible workflows for metagenomic and Amplicon-based studies
  • Supporting experimental design and data collection strategies for projects
  • Maintaining and improving internal databases and documentation standards
  • Presenting findings to cross-functional teams and external stakeholders


What you'll need to succeed
You should bring a blend of technical expertise and scientific curiosity.
Key qualifications include:
  • An MSc or PhD (or equivalent experience) within Bioinformatics, Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
  • Proven experience in bioinformatics, working with microbiome or microbial genomic data
  • Proficiency in R and Python for statistical analysis and data visualisation
  • Familiarity with tools such as QIIME2, DADA2, and Snakemake or Nextflow
  • Strong understanding of microbial ecology and sequencing technologies – eg ONT Amplicon, Illumina, PacBio etc
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Very good communication skills for translating complex data into understandable insights

Previous experience working in a fast-paced or start-up environment is a nice to have for this role, as is exposure/familiarity with Machine Learning approaches.
