Lawyer (non-qualified)

Your new company

A forward-thinking local authority committed to delivering high-quality services to its residents is looking to recruit a candidate to its legal team. The Legal Services team plays a vital role in supporting the Council’s strategic goals, ensuring legal compliance, and enabling effective decision-making across a wide range of public service areas.

Your new role

You will manage a diverse caseload under the supervision of a Principal Lawyer. You’ll provide legal advice, support senior colleagues, and represent the Council in legal matters. This is a transitional role ideal for those with legal training—such as internationally qualified lawyers or legal graduates—who are working towards full qualification in England and Wales. You’ll gain experience in areas such as housing, adult social care, education, planning, and more, while developing your legal expertise in a supportive and collaborative environment.

What you'll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you’ll need
  • A UK law degree or equivalent international qualification

  • Eligibility for or completion of the SQE or Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme

  • Experience working in a legal office, ideally within local governments or public sector environments

  • Strong legal drafting, research, and communication skills

  • The ability to manage your own caseload and work independently with some supervision

  • A commitment to professional development and a clear path toward legal qualification

What you'll get in return

  • A supportive and inclusive team environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth and legal qualification

  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements (2 days/week in the office)

  • The chance to make a meaningful impact in your community

  • Access to training, mentoring, and development resources
