Hays Education is supporting an increasing number of primary schools across Telford who are seeking skilled and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to work specifically within Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2) classrooms. Schools are looking for adaptable practitioners to join them for both short term and long term cover.
Your new role
As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children in Year 1 and Year 2, helping them build early literacy, numeracy, independence and confidence. You may assist with whole class learning, small group interventions, phonics sessions, or 1:1 support — depending on each school's needs.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with younger primary learners and wants a mix of flexibility, variety and meaningful classroom contribution.
We can offer:
- Same day cover as well as advanced bookings
- Full day or half day assignments (AM or PM)
- Daily and short term supply roles
- Long term placements lasting from 2 weeks to the remainder of the academic year
We’ll work with you to ensure the roles align with your availability, experience and preferences.
What you'll need to succeed
- Ideally a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, as many KS1 roles require this
- However, we also welcome applicants with strong, recent and referenceable experience supporting children in a UK primary setting
- Ability to provide recent, relevant references
- A nurturing, patient approach with strong behaviour management skills
- Flexibility, reliability and confidence supporting Year 1 and Year 2 pupils
- A DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
