KS1 Teaching Assistant

Your new company
Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a primary school in Sefton as they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated teaching assistant to support the reception and year 1 classes. This is a long-term full-time contract needed to cover maternity.

Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting the reception class in the morning and year 1 in the afternoon, supporting both teachers in the delivery of stimulating and engaging lessons by utilising an array of learning equipment and associating learning materials with pupils' key interests. Across both classes, you will build strong constructive relationships with your pupils by getting to know them as individuals and introducing them to new pupil groups. This will aid in the development of their social and emotional skills as well as ensure that each pupil reaches their full academic potential. You will spend the mornings supporting the reception class, holding guided reading and writing sessions on a small group basis and delivering learn-through play sessions to aid in their social and emotional development. A number of pupils within this class have "big personalities" and can at times become disruptive. To help retain their focus, you will play small games, speak to them, and remove them from the class if required to retain focus. In the afternoon you will support the year 1 class, leading on small groups and 1:1 interventions to lower and mixed-ability pupils in key areas including phonics, numeracy and literacy. These interventions will initially be held within a separate class to retain focus and engagement. As the pupils progress, these will be held within the main class and with different groups of pupils.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable experience in EYFS and/or KS1, and:
  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification
  • Experience delivering phonics using the RWI scheme
  • The ability to deliver numeracy and literacy interventions
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract (32.5 hours per week)

What you'll get in return
If you are successful in your application, you will receive the full support, dedication and guidance of a senior DfE accredited recruitment consultant, as well as a wide range of benefits that include:
  • Free training
  • Upfront cost of DBS covered
  • Long-term contract
  • Company pension scheme
  • Full holiday entitlement
  • Competitive rate of pay
  • Access to exclusive vacancies
  • Refer a Friend scheme
