KS1 Teacher (Mixed Year 1/Year 2) - Wakefield Local Authority

Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-Time | Autumn Term Initially (until Christmas) | Potential Extension Available
Salary: MPS (dependent on experience)

A welcoming and values-driven primary school in West Yorkshire is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Key Stage 1 Teacher to teach a mixed Year 1/Year 2 class from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for either an Early Career Teacher (ECT) or an experienced teacher looking to join a supportive school community where children are encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.

The school was judged Good by Ofsted and all of the staff who have worked here through Hays have thoroughly enjoyed their placements previously.
At the heart of the school is a commitment to ensuring every child feels loved, safe and nurtured. The school prides itself on creating an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated, a love of learning is fostered and children are supported to become thoughtful, considerate and independent members of society.

The Role

The successful candidate will:
  • Teach a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that inspire a love of learning.
  • Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Work closely with colleagues, support staff and parents to ensure the best outcomes for all children.
  • Adapt teaching effectively to meet the needs of learners with SEND.
The position is initially for the Autumn Term, with a strong possibility of continuing beyond Christmas for the right candidate.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or will achieve QTS before September 2026.
  • Has experience teaching within Key Stage 1.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the KS1 curriculum and assessment requirements.
  • Has experience adapting learning to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Is committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive teaching.
  • Has a kind, caring and patient approach.
  • Builds positive relationships with children, families and colleagues.
  • Shares the school's commitment to ensuring every child feels valued and supported.

In Return, You Will Receive:
  • A welcoming and supportive staff team.
  • Enthusiastic pupils who enjoy learning.
  • Strong leadership and clear direction.
  • A positive and nurturing school culture.
  • Opportunities for professional development.
  • The possibility of a longer-term opportunity beyond the initial contract.

If you are a passionate KS1 teacher who can combine high expectations with a warm and nurturing approach, we would love to hear from you.
Applications are welcome from both ECTs and experienced teachers.
