Your new role
As an Investigating Officer, you will be responsible for conducting impartial, desk-based investigations into complaints against public bodies and elected representatives. You will also support broader systemic investigations into potential maladministration or injustice within public services. This role involves managing a diverse caseload, analysing complex information, conducting interviews, and producing high-quality written reports and recommendations.
Key responsibilities include:
Investigating complaints in line with relevant legislation and internal procedures
Communicating effectively with complainants, public bodies, and stakeholders
Managing competing priorities and meeting performance targets
Conducting interviews and gathering evidence
Drafting clear, evidence-based reports and briefings
Monitoring compliance with recommendations
Representing the organisation at external events and maintaining professional relationships
What you'll need to succeed
A degree (or equivalent) with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in evidence-based analysis and reporting OR at least 4 years’ relevant experience without a degree
Strong analytical and decision-making skills
Ability to interpret legislation, codes, and procedural guidance
Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a complex caseload
Empathy and resilience when handling challenging conversations
Experience conducting investigative interviews
Desirable:Knowledge of investigative practices and research techniques
