Your new company
A highly respected public sector financial institution is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its collaborative and high-performing legal team on an initial contract running through to March 2027, with the potential for extension.
Operating at the intersection of government and global financial markets, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant function within a complex and fast-evolving market environment.
Your new role
This is a senior position within a lean but impactful legal function, reporting directly to the General Counsel. You will support a broad range of legal activities during a period of increased organisational demand, providing both strategic and operational legal advice across multiple practice areas.
Your responsibilities will include:
Advising on debt capital markets, money markets, derivatives, lending, and fund management activities
Drafting and supporting documentation for debt issuance programmes, including auctions, syndications, and tenders
Negotiating and managing key financial agreements, including industry-standard documentation (e.g. repo and derivatives agreements)
Monitoring regulatory and market developments, identifying impacts and advising stakeholders accordingly
Supporting commercial, contractual, and operational legal work across the organisation
Contributing to the development of legal processes, know-how, and internal tools
Managing relationships with external legal advisers where required
This role offers significant variety, senior stakeholder engagement, and the opportunity to shape the legal function within a critical financial institution.
What you'll need to succeed
Qualified lawyer (England & Wales or equivalent)
Strong technical expertise in either finance law (e.g. DCM, derivatives, lending) or public law
The ability to deliver high-quality, pragmatic advice on complex legal issues, including with senior stakeholders
Excellent judgement and a commercial, risk-aware approach
A proactive, “can-do” attitude with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
Collaborative approach to working across teams
What you'll get in return
Up to £370 per day, dependent on experience
The opportunity to work at the heart of the UK’s financial infrastructure
Exposure to a broad and high-impact legal remit across financial markets and public law
A supportive, collaborative, and intellectually engaging working environment
The chance to play a key role during a period of significant activity and strategic importance
