Interim IT Technician in High School Blackpool

Your new company

A forward‑thinking high school in Blackpool is looking for an enthusiastic IT Technician to provide short‑term cover during a period of staff absence. You’ll be joining a supportive team within a large multi‑school trust that uses a blend of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, giving you exposure to a varied technical environment. The multi-academy trust also has upcoming summer projects across nearby sites, so there may be opportunities for additional work into August.

Your new role

You’ll work 22 June – 17 July, Monday to Friday 08:00–16:00, shadowing the existing IT technician in week one. In week two, you’ll work alongside another senior technician before stepping into a sole IT Technician role for 2 weeks, with support available when needed.
Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:
  • First‑line support to staff and students — password resets, account issues, helpdesk queries, walk‑ins, troubleshooting
  • Supporting a mixed environment: Microsoft 365 for local systems, Google for email and shared drives
  • Printer support, toner replacement and basic hardware fixes
  • Providing calm, clear technical help to staff and students

What you'll need to succeed

The school is looking for someone who is:
  • A reliable communicator who can support staff confidently
  • Punctual, organised and able to work unsupervised once trained.
  • Experienced in 1st line (and ideally some 2nd line) school‑based IT support
  • Comfortable with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and general troubleshooting
  • Able to commit to the full assignment period 22/06–17/07 (initially)
  • A driver is preferred but not essential.

What you'll get in return

  • A supportive induction with shadowing and hands‑on guidance

  • The chance to step into a sole‑technician role with backup available

  • Experience across both Google and Microsoft school environments

  • Potential additional project work in August

  • A friendly, collaborative school environment where your contribution will be valued

  • A dedicated consultant at Hays to provide support with compliance, payments and future opportunities.
