Your new company
My client are a leading public organisation involved in managing long-term savings and financial security in the UK. As part of their commitment to building an engaged, informed, and high-performing organisation, we are partnering with them to recruit an Interim Head of Internal Communications and Engagement on an initial 3-6 month contract, working hybrid from their offices in Brighton.

Your new role
Over the past couple of years, the organisation has undertaken a very positive transformation – changing not just what they do but how they do it. As part of this ongoing change, they are committed to evolving their Internal Communications function to foster internal alignment, accountability, collaboration and a performance mindset. As Interim Head of Internal Communications, you will lead the strategic direction and delivery of the internal communications and engagement function to embed changes in ways of working following this significant organisational transformation. You will bring together and evolve the Internal Comms strategy, creating very clear delivery plans and milestones to embed new processes into the team, and support them to deliver and achieve their potential. This is a senior leadership role with enterprise-wide influence, responsible for shaping a connected, informed, and motivated workforce aligned to their purpose, values, and strategic direction.

You will act as the principal advisor to the Executive Committee on internal communications and engagement, ensuring that communications are insight-led, inclusive, and drive cultural and behavioural change. Supporting leaders to communicate effectively with their people, including people policies, and leading through change. You will lead and help shape the team and work in close partnership with senior leaders to embed a compelling organisational narrative that supports the organisation’s aims and enhances the employee experience.

What you'll need to succeed
We are looking for an experienced Internal Communications leader with a background in strategic leadership, senior stakeholder engagement, change communications, team development, business partnering and insight-led evaluation. You will possess:
  • Extensive experience in a senior internal communications leadership role, providing trusted, impartial advice ideally within a regulated, public sector, or complex matrix organisation.
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering strategic internal communications and engagement programmes that support transformation.
  • Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, with experience advising executive level leaders and boards on a range of complex and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and developing teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, compelling messages.
  • Deep understanding of employee engagement, behavioural insight, and multi-channel communications, including intranets and digital channels, and running effective events both hybrid and in-person.
  • Experience using data and insight to inform strategy, evaluate impact, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of a range of effective internal communication channels, products and events, ensuring communications are delivered to a high standard and championing best practice
  • Effective contribution to crisis and incident communications planning, and effective management of internal communications crisis responses.

What you'll get in return
You'll receive a daily rate of up to £600 per day on this contract, likely to last up to 6 months with the potential to be considered for longer-term opportunities within the organisation. You'll work on a hybrid basis with regular travel to offices in Brighton, 1-2 times per week. You will have the opportunity to steer the development and shaping of new internal comms strategies within an excellent organisation, and really see yourself make an impact.
