Finance Officer (Maternity Cover – Fixed Term)

Contract: Fixed Term – 12 Months
Start Date: November 2025
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (3 days – flexible on which days)
Salary: £18,509 – £20,440 per annum (FTE: £30,518 – £33,699)

Hays are working with a well-established organisation in the Exeter area who are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Officer to join the team for a fixed-term maternity cover. This part-time role offers flexibility and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the financial operations of a respected local organisation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), the Finance Officer will play a key role in managing the organisation’s financial affairs. You’ll support senior leadership in delivering accurate financial reporting, budget preparation, and audit compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare month-end, quarterly, and year-end accounts and reports
- Assist in annual budget preparation
- Support internal and external audits (including AGAR)
- Attend finance-related committee meetings and prepare supporting documentation
- Manage sales and purchase ledgers
- Prepare VAT returns and manage petty cash
- Oversee online banking and bank reconciliations
- Maintain Trust Fund accounts and annual returns
- Provide HR administrative support
- Update banking signatory details
About You
You will either:
- Be studying or have completed an Accounting qualification at Level 2 or above (e.g. AAT), or
- Have at least 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment
You’ll also bring:
- Strong literacy, numeracy, and IT skills
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities
- Confidence in processing financial transactions up to annual accounts
