Hays is proud to be working in partnership with a local council to recruit an Interim Engagement Officer. This newly created role sits within the Children, Education and Families Directorate, and is designed to strengthen how the council listens to and works with children, young people, and families across Oxfordshire.
About the Role
As Engagement Officer, you will lead efforts to ensure that the voices of children, young people, and families are meaningfully embedded in decision-making, service design, and evaluation. Youāll champion a culture of listening, advocacy, and co-production, collaborating with internal teams, external partners, and participation groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of the Directorateās Participation and Engagement Strategy, co-produced with stakeholders.
- Facilitate genuine co-production, ensuring lived experiences shape services from design to delivery.
- Support and grow participation groups, ensuring inclusion of diverse and seldom-heard voices.
- Plan and deliver creative engagement activities (e.g. workshops, consultations, surveys, focus groups).
- Working with service leads to embedded feedback into planning and evaluation.
- Analyse and report findings to influence policy and practice.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of participation work, driving continuous improvement.
About You
- Strong understanding of childrenās rights, statutory frameworks, and co-production methodologies.
- Proven ability to build trust and engage with vulnerable or seldom-heard children, young people, and families.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and organisational skills.
- Analytical mindset with experience interpreting qualitative and quantitative data.
- Able to manage multiple projects independently and work collaboratively.
- Personable, diplomatic, creative, and resilient, committed to championing childrenās voices.
