Interim Commercial Accountant – 6 Month Contract – Hybrid Working – Edinburgh

Your new company
Hays Senior Finance are partnering with a well-established and growing organisation within a fast-paced commercial sector to recruit a Commercial Accountant on an interim 6-month contract.
Operating across a range of projects and revenue streams, the business is experiencing continued demand and growth, creating the opportunity for a commercially focused finance professional to support key contracts and drive financial performance. This role offers strong exposure to operational teams and project-based work, within a collaborative and dynamic environment. Hybrid working is available.
Your new role
Reporting into senior commercial leadership, you will take on a commercially focused role supporting ongoing projects and contracts. This position goes beyond traditional accounting, with a strong emphasis on pricing, valuations, and forecasting to support business performance.
You will be responsible for preparing and submitting regular valuations, pricing contract variations and non-standard work, and maintaining pricing models. You will support the mobilisation of new contracts, manage margins, and produce accurate forecasts to ensure financial targets are achieved.
Working closely with internal stakeholders including finance, operations, procurement, and project teams, you will provide insight and financial support to drive decision-making and deliver successful outcomes across multiple projects
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this interim Commercial Accountant role, you will be a qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA or equivalent) with experience in commercial or contract-focused environments.
You will have strong analytical and Excel skills, alongside the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Experience working with pricing, forecasting, and margin analysis is essential.
You will be a confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across operational teams and influence decision-making. Experience in sectors such as construction, manufacturing, or project-based environments would be advantageous but not essential
What you'll get in return
This interim opportunity offers a competitive salary or day rate, dependent on experience, alongside the chance to work in a highly commercial and visible role.
You will gain valuable experience working closely with operational teams on live projects, with the opportunity to contribute to ongoing growth and performance improvement. There is also potential for longer-term opportunities subject to performance and business needs.
