Contract – Infrastructure Engineer


Overview
We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join a business undertaking a significant infrastructure remediation and upgrade programme. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving the stability, security and performance of the infrastructure estate, with a particular focus on VMware, server patching, network infrastructure and vulnerability remediation.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to an engineer who is comfortable working across both Windows and Linux environments and can independently deliver infrastructure improvements within a live production environment.


Responsibilities

  • Administer, patch and maintain VMware ESXi 8.0.3 environments
  • Apply and manage VMware licensing upgrades
  • Deliver infrastructure patching and vulnerability remediation activities across the estate
  • Perform firmware upgrades and maintenance of Dell iDRAC 8 and 9 systems
  • Deploy and manage operating system, anti-virus and EUC patching
  • Support Cisco Meraki network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls and connectivity
  • Maintain and support Windows Server 2016 and 2019 environments
  • Work within Oracle Linux and legacy Linux environments
  • Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues to minimise operational risk
  • Support infrastructure hardening, upgrade and resilience initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party providers including network and connectivity suppliers


Experience Required

  • Proven experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Consultant
  • Strong VMware ESXi administration, patching and upgrade experience
  • Experience managing VMware licensing and infrastructure upgrades
  • Good knowledge of Cisco Meraki networking environments
  • Experience patching and maintaining Dell iDRAC 8 and 9 platforms
  • Strong Windows Server 2016/2019 administration experience
  • Linux administration experience, ideally Oracle Linux
  • Experience delivering infrastructure remediation, vulnerability reduction or security improvement programmes
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced project environment
