Your new company

A public sector organisation based in Cardiff offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement (1 or 2 days a week in the office) and an excellent work-life balance to an experienced Public Sector, Information Governance Officer who, ideally, also has a background with policies, legal support and compliance in addition to excellent GDPR knowledge.

This is a hands-on, sole-charge role sitting within the Legal team focussed primarily on FOI's SARs DPIAs and some Policy and Legal support areas.

Your new role

You will play a key role in maintaining and operating the information governance framework, ensuring compliance with data protection and freedom of information legislation, and supporting broader legal and ethical functions across the organisation.
This is a hands-on:
  • Implementing information governance arrangements, such as providing privacy notices, privacy impact assessments, and compliant contract terms, including in respect of the use of artificial intelligence.
  • Operating systems for handling Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, data protection subject access requests (SARs), and breach reporting.
  • Delivering induction and ongoing training on information governance.
  • Conducting horizon scanning of legal and policy developments and assisting in drafting responses to consultations.
  • Supporting in developing organisation-wide compliance arrangements.
  • Reviewing documents to identify any legal issues.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A strong understanding of data protection, FOI, and public sector governance, including in respect of developments and use of artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills.
  • Ability to address complex legal and ethical queries with sound judgement.
