A fast-growing and innovative organisation in the technology sector is seeking an experienced commercial In-House Counsel to join them and lead their legal function. Operating across multiple territories, this company is known for its dynamic approach to business and commitment to excellence. This is a unique opportunity to take on a strategic legal role within a forward-thinking environment that values integrity, agility, and commercial insight. As the first appointment of its kind, this role represents an exciting opportunity for you to really make it your own and put your own mark on the role. Based in Gloucestershire, the company operates a hybrid working model and would look for you to be in the office 2–3 days per week.
Your new role
As In-House Counsel, you will provide proactive, practical, and business-focused legal support across the organisation, with a strong emphasis on commercial law. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a key role in managing legal risk, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic business initiatives. You will also serve as the company’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), overseeing data privacy compliance under GDPR and other relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts including supplier, customer, licensing, and distribution agreements.
- Advising on legal risks related to technology procurement, resale, and service delivery.
- Leading dispute resolution strategies and managing external counsel when required.
- Monitoring legal and regulatory developments in the tech sector and advising on risk mitigation.
- Managing contract templates, playbooks, and legal policies.
- Delivering training on legal and compliance topics to internal teams.
- Ensuring data protection compliance across all operational territories.
What you’ll need to succeed
Applications from those looking to work part-time will be considered and there is also the possibility of working the role around school hours/pick-up and drop-off. To be successful in this role, you will need:- Qualification as a Solicitor (England & Wales or Scotland) or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
- 8 years PQE in commercial law, ideally gained in-house (however experienced commercial lawyers within private practice will be considered)
- Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Experience with public procurement and tendering processes.
- Strong knowledge of data protection, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business advice.
- High levels of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, with a self-motivated and enthusiastic approach.
