A large national UK Charity has an excellent opportunity within its in-house legal team for a senior (5+ PQE) lawyer

My client is looking to appoint a senior level health & safety regulatory lawyer (solicitor/barrister/CILEX) at minimum 5 years pqe to senior, to have the primary responsibility for the provision of legal advice to the Charity on all aspects of regulatory including H&S law, environmental and public liability. Key to this role is managing risk associated with potential legal proceedings of £10million +, and the loss of public reputation, criminal and other potential enforcement action by the regulators. This is a really interesting and unique H&S regulatory role, integral to the performance and reputation of the Charity.
You will:
- Be the lead strategic advisor on all aspects of H&S law and management, providing advice across and at all levels of the organisation (including the Executive and the Board) on legal risk and compliance.
- Advise the Charity on compliance with H&S law in respect of colleague (employee and volunteer) safety
- Support the Head of Environment Law, providing legal advice on all aspects of environmental etc regulatory compliance
- Manage the Charity’s response to incidents leading to enforcement action by a regulator.
- Provide legal advice on a fit for purpose approach in respect of the management of H&S risks of public use of the Charity’s land etc
- Support the development of the Charity’s H&S policy and processes, including risk assessment, reporting and investigations,
- Advise the Charity’s H&S team on regulatory aspects of H&S law, assisting in responses to coroners reports, inquests and HSE enquires, notices and enforcement action
The ideal lawyer (solicitor/barrister/CILEX) will enjoy working within a close knit and collaborative legal team, all working from home and enjoying a fantastic work/life balance. You will be a confident lawyer with excellent communication and negotiation skills and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. You should be able to quickly gain credibility and buy in from stakeholders at all levels across a multidisciplinary organisation. You should also have an interest in environmental matters.
On top of the basic salary (a budget to £55,000 per annum is available) and excellent benefits package (including pension to 10%, holidays rising to 30 days with service and two x paid CSR days), you will benefit from a collegiate and remote working environment (the team will have non-obligatory face-to-face team meetings each year plus optional meet ups on day one for new team members in their home city).
