Temporary HR Manager - Edinburgh City Centre

Your new company

Hays is delighted to partner with a well-established organisation based in Edinburgh City Centre, who are seeking an experienced HR Manager to provide cover for approximately 3 months. This role is critical to maintaining continuity, supporting operational teams and leading an established HR function.

Your new role

Reporting directly to the Head of HR, you will take responsibility for leading the HR and Payroll team and managing day-to-day HR operations. Given the short-term nature of the assignment, the focus will be on providing hands-on, pragmatic support, particularly across employee relations and operational HR activities.
You will have direct line management responsibility for the HR team, ensuring the team continues to deliver a responsive, compliant and customer-focused service.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and developing the HR and Payroll team through regular one-to-ones, guidance and performance feedback
  • Reviewing working practices and driving continuous improvement across HR service delivery
  • Providing expert HR advice and support to Heads of Service and Managers on operational and corporate matters
  • Managing a wide range of employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance management and employment tribunal matters
  • Supporting recruitment and selection processes where required
  • Advising on wellbeing matters, including Working Time Directive compliance and health monitoring

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced HR professional with:
  • Proven experience operating at HR Manager level in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong, hands-on employee relations case management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of HR policy, employment law and best practice
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and developing HR teams
  • The ability to quickly integrate into an organisation and build effective working relationships
  • A pragmatic, confident and delivery-focused approach, ideal for a short-term assignment
CIPD qualification (or equivalent experience) is desirable.

What you'll get in return

  • A competitive hourly rate, full-time hours, flexible hybrid working
  • The opportunity to make an immediate impact in a key leadership role
  • A collaborative, supportive working environment
  • A well-defined, focused assignment with clear priorities
