The purpose of this role is to deliver a proactive and professional HR service that aligns with the organisation’s strategic objectives. This involves the effective implementation of HR policies and procedures, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and acting as a key driver of positive organisational change.
The HR Manager is responsible for developing and executing the annual HR plan to support business goals, while also leading HR projects that enhance operational efficiency and employee engagement. A critical part of the role involves working closely with senior leaders and line managers, offering expert guidance on people management, coaching them on policy application, and building their capability in handling employee matters.
Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion is central to the role, ensuring these values are embedded throughout the organisation. The HR Manager supports workforce planning by helping managers assess short- and long-term resource needs, ensuring staffing levels are maintained within budget. They also oversee the full recruitment and selection process, from job design and advertising to interviews and onboarding.
Employee relations is a key focus, with the HR Manager providing advice on disciplinary, grievance, performance, and absence issues, ensuring fair and consistent resolution. They are responsible for maintaining and updating HR policies and procedures, keeping the staff handbook current and aligned with best practices.
Performance management is another core area, with the HR Manager ensuring all employees receive annual reviews and supporting managers in setting meaningful objectives. They also play a vital role in internal communications, facilitating employee forums and ensuring staff are informed of key organisational changes.
The role includes advising on compensation and benefits, conducting salary reviews and benchmarking to maintain competitiveness. The HR Manager supports the induction process for new employees and monitors HR metrics, providing data and insights to senior leadership to inform decision-making.
Absence management is handled through close monitoring and support for managers, including occupational health referrals. The HR Manager also participates in health and safety committee meetings to ensure compliance and oversees GDPR adherence across all HR activities.
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven experience within a fast-paced FMCG environment.
- Strong and up-to-date knowledge of HR practices, employment law, and compliance.
- Clear and direct communication style, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with departmental managers to support business needs.
- Experience in managing robust HR processes and effective people management strategies.
- Skilled in recruiting for technical roles, particularly within engineering disciplines.
- Ability to drive organisational culture initiatives and enhance the employee value proposition (EVP).
- Experience in managing training and development programmes that support employee growth.
- Working knowledge of health and safety practices within a business context.
- Proven capability in leading learning and development (L&D) and succession planning activities.
- High levels of drive, determination, and initiative; a self-starter with strong leadership qualities.
