HR MANAGER JOB IN BURTON ON TRENT

Your new company

This is a new role that has been created based on-site in Burton on Trent for a successful manufacturing business. This role is based on site 5 days a week.

Your new role

  • Own and improve the employee life cycle from recruitment, induction/onboarding, workforce planning, training and development, rewards/benefits, employee relations, career progression, HR systems and processes, data reporting and HR projects.

  • Investigate the scope of the HR system and ensure the business and its employees utilise more of its features moving forward.

  • Facilitate communication between employees and managers; provide guidance on dispute resolution, disciplinary action, grievances, and litigation avoidance.

  • Coach, advise and guide managers to carry out and record all disciplinary action to include low-level misconduct and informal conversations.

  • To ensure HR compliance is adhered to from a legal point of view, ensuring all paperwork (including contracts of employment and contract variation letters) are completed, executed and updated in line with legislation changes.

  • Deal with all employee relations matters in a professional and sensitive manner to protect the reputation of the business.

  • Co-ordinate, review and improve the onboarding process for new starters.

  • Provide HR metric reporting to cover issues such as headcount, attrition rates, absence, recruitment and exit interviews to be presented at the People Meetings for the Executive Leadership Team.

  • Monitor sickness absence levels, carry out spot checks to ensure sickness is properly being recorded, and check for any abuse of the company sick pay.

  • Oversee all instructions for referrals to occupational health and ensure that the questions to OH have been drafted by our external employment solicitor where necessary to ensure that the report covers the required information.

  • Build insight into how people feel and what’s important to them, including leading on the Employee Engagement Survey.

  • Manage the review and updates of the Employee Handbook and employment-related policies.

  • Manage the Company’s benefits and rewards administration, ensuring the offering continues to be in line with market trends and is sufficient to attract and retain staff.

  • Attend the Mental Health & Wellbeing Committee meetings, which is the committee which supports our Mental Health First Aiders (‘MHFAs’) and help promote mental health and wellbeing initiatives in the company.

  • Attend the monthly manager meetings to encourage communication between the departments and provide an opportunity to share issues and ideas and help each other.

  • Liaise with the company’s external employment lawyers for advice where needed.

  • In time, develop a People Strategy to cover issues such as recruitment, retention, development, compensation and reward and succession planning.

What you'll need to succeed

  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role (preferably including manufacturing industry experience)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of employment legislation
  • Strong understanding of wider business and commercial needs
  • Experience managing direct reports and day-to-day HR functions
  • Approachable, calm, and assertive demeanour
  • Capable of challenging managers to make better people decisions
  • Constantly seeks opportunities to simplify and improve processes
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to meet deadlines and project goals
